PERSONAL PROFILE

Hengyu Gu is tenure-track Assistant Professor and doctoral supervisor at the School of Geography and Ocean Science, Nanjing University. He earned his PhD in Regional Economics at Peking University and owned a jointly trained PhD experience in Regional Science at the University of Chicago. Before starting his PhD, he completed a bachelor's degree in geographic information system (GIS) at South China Normal University. He used to work as an RFS Postdoctoral Fellow at the Department of Geography and Resource Management, The Chinese University of Hong Kong.
His main research interests include population geography and regional development, urban computing and urban spatial governance. He has published more than 100 papers in representative international and domestic journals, including more than 60 papers as the first or corresponding author. He is a member of the Population Geography Committee of the Chinese Geographical Society (CGS), a council member of the China Association for the Study of Africa, and an Editorial Board Member of Population, Space and Place, Spatial Demography, Geography and Sustainability, etc. He has published two books. He has been selected for the Young Elite Scientists Sponsorship Program by the China Association for Science and Technology (CAST) and hosted funding from the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC), Lincoln Institute China Program International Fellowship, Humanities and Social Sciences Fund of the Ministry of Education, China Merchants Charity Foundation and China Population Welfare Foundation, etc.
